Solubility Ch 9.1 :Solubility Only
2
Alloys: a mixture of metal with one or more elements (ex steel, bronze, penny) Solution: Homogenous mixture dealing with liquids (koolaid, soda) Examples: (don’t need to copy) – 14K gold (mixture of copper and silver) – Bronze (mixture of Zinc & Copper ) – Steel (mixture of metals and carbon) – Stainless steel (chromium & nickel dissolved in Iron) Alloy & Solution
3
Solute & Solvent Solute = the dissolved substance Solvent = the substance that does the “dissolving” – Water is the universal solvent
4
Solubility & Temperature Solubility is a measure of how much solute can be dissolved in a given volume or mass of solvent
7
Saturated and Unsaturated Unsaturated: Any solution that can dissolve more solute at a given temperature Saturated: any solution that contains all the solute it can hold at a particular temperature.
