Drawing 1 Is open to all students grades 9- 12. The course is a possible pre- requisite for many other art classes. A materials fee is required. In Drawing 1 Students explore:

Portrait Drawing Working from a photographic source students draw themselves, friends, or famous people.

Comic Book Cover Design In this project students learn to precisely draw fonts while further mastering the skill of color pencil drawing.

In this assignment the ancient art of Illuminated Letters is used as inspiration for initials that represent the student and / or their family in a personal way.

These drawings are responses to PTSA reflections themes introduced in various classes.

While studying Surrealism these students created dream-like images in the style of artists like Salvador Dali. Grant Wood’s American Gothic recently celebrated it’s 75 th birthday and was used by students as inspiration for colored pencil “spoofs” on his painting.
