Hound Group Dogs developed for hunting and tracking by sight or scent Include many types of hounds, beagles, and dachshunds

Terrier Group Dogs developed to hunt undergound Include terriers and schnauzers

Working Group Dogs developed to perform services such as police and rescue work, guarding property, and pulling sleds Include Alaskan Malamute, Boxers, Doberman Pinscher, Great Dane, Saint Bernards, Siberian Husky, ect.

Herding Group Dogs developed to assist in managing livestock such as sheep and cattle Include Collies, German Shepherd, Sheepdogs, ect

Toy Group Dogs developed to be of small size for use as house pets and companion animals Include Chihuahua, Pekingese, Pug, ect.

Non-Sporting Group Miscellaneous breeds used mainly for companionship Include Boston Terrier, Dalmatian, Poodle, ect.
