2. Consider the following… You open your kitchen cabinet and notice that your mom has bought a new jar of pickles. You do your best to open it but, being a wimp, you are unable to do so. You remember from science class that if you heat something up, it causes the molecules to move faster and the volume to increase. Knowing this, you decide to heat the glass jar by running it under hot water and to cool the lid by running it under cold water. Will these actions allow you to open the jar?

4. Let’s revisit the story about the pickle jar. Using what you learned from today’s investigation, what is the best way to open the jar? Why will your method work?

5. Drill: On page 4 of your notebook… Title the page “Heat and motion of Molecules” 1. Write a short paragraph or a drawing explaining what happened in the investigation. 2. Explain what you learned about the relationship between how molecules move and heat energy. Quiz this Friday!
