The Watergate Scandal - even before scandal Nixon criticized for the “imperial” style of his presidency - Pentagon Papers controversy - Watergate burglary during 1972 campaign - Nixon gets in trouble for covering up the crime - issue was executive privilege vs power of Congress - 3 months of televised Senate hearings

7. Watergate continued - Vice Pres. Spiro Agnew resigned during investigation Gerald Ford was chosen as new VP - Nixon resigned when it became obvious he would be impeached in 1974 - new President Ford started by giving Nixon a pardon for any crimes he might have committed while President
