Herpetology Herpetology Students get the opportunity to handle, observe, and learn about reptiles and amphibians. Characterist ics and adaptations of snakes, turtles, alligators, salamanders, and more will be discussed; and many misconceptions will be dispelled about these beneficial and often misunderstood animals. Digger cruises around, making sure he visits with all the students!

Lake Ecology Lake Ecology Be prepared to get your feet wet in this fun and fascinating class. Students will use dip nets to collect and identify common organisms found in Rock Eagle Lake. Adaptations to an aquatic environment and the role these organisms play in the environment will be stressed. Old shoes and clothes that can get wet are a must! Students wading to see what critters they can catch!

Team Building Challenge Course (5th grade and up) This class is designed to explore basic teambuilding concepts through a series of exciting non-traditional action based activities. Students have the opportunity to focus on issues such as goal setting, individual differences, dealing with failure, and developing strategies in an atmosphere that emphasizes the educational journey above all. Classes are designed to fit your group's specific needs and are sure to provoke critical thinking. Challenge course may include low ropes course elements where appropriate and is mentally and physically challenging to groups. Challenge Course is strongly advised to follow Team Initiatives. Students trying a balancing act on the whale watch!

Canoeing Canoeing Basic instructions are given before students venture out onto the water to try canoeing for themselves. Canoeing techniques, water safety, and procedures will be covered by the instructor. Students are required to have parental permission and must wear a personal flotation device (life jacket) at all times. Students learning how to paddle before getting into the water. Students practicing their strokes.

Archaeology Students will have the opportunity to dig back into Georgia’s history.

Native Games Students will have the opportunity to learn and play Native American games.

Campfire Campfire (3rd through 6th grade only) The campfire program at Rock Eagle provides students with an opportunity to participate in a recreational and social activity. An hour of storytelling, songs, skits, and legends around a burning campfire can be a welcome addition to your outdoor experience. Participants will be drawn to participate in the activities.

Rock Eagle Hike Rock Eagle Hike - This 2-hour class consists of hiking the students to the effigy, discussing some of the information known about the mound, and then hiking the students back to the center. You may also point out interesting things you see along the way (wildlife, historic sites, etc.).

Movie Movie- Kemp teacher will provide movies for the children. Ex. Night at the Museum, Chronicles of Narnia, Cheaper by the Dozen

Lodging Lodging & Accomodations Rock Eagle's primary campus contains fifty-four cottages, holding up to twenty people each. Many border Rock Eagle Lake for a dazzling view any time of day. All cottages have a living room, private 'C' room with private bath & closet and two singlebeds, two group lodging rooms with four bunk beds, for a total of eighteen beds, large shower and restroom facilities. All have air conditioning and heat for year round comfort.

Tentative Time Schedule Day 1 10:30 – Arrive 11:00 – 12:00 – Lunch 12:30 – 2:30 – Session #1 2:30 – 3:00 – Break 3:00 – 5:00 – Sesson #2 5:00 – 6:00 – Dinner 7:00 – 9:00 – Night Classes Day 2 7:00 – 8:00 – Breakfast 8:30 – 10:30 – Session #3 11:00 – 12:00 – Lunch 12:30 – 2:30 – Session #4 2:30 – 3:00 – Break 3:00 – 5:00 – Session #5 5:00 – 6:30 – Dinner 7:00 – 9:00 – Night Classes Day 3 7:00 – 8:00 – Breakfast 8:30 – 10:30 – Session #6 11:00 – 12:00 – Lunch Depart Arrive back at school at approximately 3:00 Parents will need to pick students up in the back of the school at the bus port.

Rain Classes will still be held outside even if it is raining. Students should bring rain gear. If there is thunder and lightening, then classes will be moved inside.

What does my child need to bring? A handout was sent home

Snacks You may send a labeled snack for your child each day. Please do NOT send candy, gum or carbonated drinks. Juice boxes, water bottles or sports drinks are acceptable. Snacks will be collected by your child’s teacher and kept in a separate building. Food and drinks are not allowed in the cabins. There will be a snack time each day.

Trading Post There is a trading post which sells souvenir items. It is open from 5 until 7 pm each evening. Snacks and soda machines are available around the clock. Items in the trading post range from $0.10 for candy to $13.00 for a t-shirt. Please do not send in large amounts of cash.
