Institutional Cooperation Instrument for Higher Education Institutions (ICI-HEI) Agreement between UniPID and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Intended for Capacity Building through partnership between at least one Finnish institution and one partner institution

ICI-HEI: Situation PHASE I (2009) 72 applications in June 2009 out of which 20 North-South projects are funded € 20 000- 40 000 each to plan project and prepare a Project Document for Phase II. PHASE II (2010-2012) Detailed Project Document 3 year project with total funding between € 50 000- 500 000.

Minor in Development Studies Virtual courses are based on distant learning over the Internet The Minor in Development Studies programme comprises five (5) courses (worth 5 ECTS credits each) for a total of twenty-five (25) ECTS credits. Organization UniPID Executive Board has authorized Virtual studies working group to organize Virtual studies Member universities name representatives to the Virtual studies working group Virtual studies working group decides which of the courses proposed are accepted to the programme UniPID finances establishing the approved courses Course organizers are expected to offer the 2nd (and possibly the 3 rd ) round of UniPID financed courses without further UniPID-funding Main idea: Mutual exchange, no fees Piloting participation from the South

Challenges How Southern partners may participate Virtual studies program? How can we serve larger masses of Finnish university students in the future? Can we establish cooperation with other organisations such as the UN-association of Finland? Can we expand program to include – Students of polytechnics in Finland? – Adult learners at the open universities? Other external interest towards UniPID-virtual studies Fees if offered to external audience?

1. ”Question + argument” method – 15 freely formed questions that the student wants to ask any of the lecturers on the basis of his/her presentation. – Only one question per each lecture – Argue why that question is important 2.
