1. We strengthened the academic, career and technical skills of our students by: Offered face to face tutoring, group and online tutoring through Smart Thinking. The college also monitors the academic process of students with the help of our Director of Academic Success. Purchased software that allows instructors to communicate with Academic Success at the first sign of student struggles. Training/hands on exercises that give students real world experience Skills USA Competitions Provide initial Career Assessments Annual Program Evaluation

1. We strengthened the academic, career and technical skills of our students by: Giovanni Aguilar Skills USA Winner of the Gold Medal in the CNC Technician competition at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville Kentucky.

1. We strengthened the academic, career and technical skills of our students by: Graduated yesterday with the Associate in Applied Science in Industrial Technology with a 3.6 GPA. He's transferring to ECU for a bachelors in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Industrial Supervision. In April he was 1 of 3 students selected by JCC faculty to participate in Skills USA in Greensboro. He won first place in his specific competition - Motor Controls. He will be serving as JCC’s First intern with Novo Nortis for that program this summer.

We linked career and technical education at the secondary level with career and technical education at the postsecondary level: College developed approximately 25 pathways that allow for early introduction to Programs through the Career and College Promise. 13 pathways developed for students in Basic Skills Plus The Director of College and Career Promise Programs is a joint position hired by both Johnston County Schools and Johnston Community College. JCC was awarded a National Science Foundation grant, "Rural Technician Dual Enrollment" to promote awareness of machining careers and CCP pathways. The Dean and Director of Advanced Technologies meet on a regular basis with the CTE Director of Johnston County Schools (JCS).

We linked career and technical education at the secondary level with career and technical education at the postsecondary level: Robotics Team 2016 Partnership between Advanced Technologies and Associate in Engineering All County Team representing 7 JCS, 29 students total Participated in 2 district competitions and the state championships. Coached by 7 faculty member from Both both Advanced Technologies and Engineering. Also, two Student mentors. Supported by Catepillar, Carolina Ecosystems, and Clark Nexgen. Took these students on many industry tours.

3. We provided students with strong experience in, and understanding of all aspects of an industry by: Provide industry tour trips in North Carolina and other states to provide students with real world understanding of the industry they are seeking employment in. Public Safety department provides a training exercise that brings all areas of public safety together with healthcare to allow students an experience of real life practice of an emergency situation. Mini grants were funded by Johnston Community College Foundation to enhance classroom and overall student experience.

Worked with Caterpillar to create a "Made in Johnston County" video to promote manufacturing careers and the CTE training to prepare for those careers. https://youtu.be/0xbYLJYhCPg https://youtu.be/0xbYLJYhCPg Cosmetology students participated in hair shows each year. They attend the International Trade Show in New York City where they engage in conversations with seasoned professionals to learn more opportunities in the field. Health Science Bootcamp for 10 th, 11 th and 12 th graders. Rotated through all health programs with hands on and career exploration activities.

4. We developed, improved, or expanded the use of technology in career and technical education by: The facility housing machining, industrial systems, welding and HVAC was renamed the, "William R. Britt Advanced Technology Center" to reflect the state of the art education provided to students and area manufacturing. Each area is either accredited or in the process of accreditation by an industry recognized agency. All full time faculty are certified by an industry recognized credential(s).

We developed, improved, or expanded the use of technology in career and technical education by: Incorporated computerized testing in the healthcare programs to prepare students for state exams which are now given in the computerized format. Industry professionals are brought into the class experience as guest lecturers. Career Counseling program purchased Student Success Center Development

5. We provided professional development by: Offered professional development for High School instructors CDCs and Principals on each of the programs through a hands on presentation of all programs. Provided professional development training for Nursing instructors in the area that provided concept based instruction strategies. Sent Nursing instructors to the ACEN Self Study forum in preparation for our on site visit. All Radiography instructors attended the Radiography Symposium. Sonography instructors attended and competed at the Statewide Conference for Sonographers.

We developed and implemented evaluations of our career and technical education programs by: Detailed annual program review Advisory board for each individual technical/vocational program made up of industry and alumni. Each student is offered the opportunity to evaluate their class, program and instructor each semester. The college yearly provides program assessment through annual planning and evaluation.

7. We Initiated, improved, expanded, and modernized quality career and technical education programs, including relevant technology by: Active advisory boards meeting at least once per year. Community Partners that enhance programs of study: Partnership for Children, Grifols, Novo Nordisk, UNC Hospitals, etc… Direct links with Business and industry through Workforce Development and our one college model. Public School Partnerships in alignment of program pathways.

We provided services and activities that are of sufficient size, scope, and quality to be effective as evidenced by: Through the support of the Director for Instruction Research each Vocational and Technical program receives data that helps the instructors target under enrolled areas. Each program yearly must complete a thorough program review within the Compliance Assist software. This gives a complete overview of demographics, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Each student in Vocational and Technical student has a personal advisor that provides guidance toward completion of each semester’s registration and program completion.

We provided activities to prepare special populations students who are enrolled in CTE courses by: Provided Equipment and supplies for special populations students that aided in their success for classes. Provide one-on-one counseling for students with special needs. Accessible policies within our website and publications Staff person/counselor trained in all aspects of disability policies. Under current review of campus accessibility and needs of all students.
