Kindergarten ROCKS !

I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! This will be my 12 th year teaching for Hardin County schools (11 th in kindergarten). I have been with Heartland Elementary since in opened, 6 years ago. I live in Radcliff with my two daughters—Riley, a third grader here, and Regan, a first grader here as well. Both my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree are from Western Kentucky University.

Homework folders will not begin consistently until after Labor Day. Homework will come home Monday through Thursday. Normally, two days will involve reading and two math. Homework will review concepts taught in class or individual skills needing more practice.

Report Cards will come home every 9 weeks and will focus on content covered. Conferences are set up within the first 9 weeks and following as needed.

Assessments given: Brigance Kindergarten Screener Literacy First MAP (Fall, Winter, and Spring) On-going Sight Word checks

Weekly Behavior Celebration Criteria High = 1 yellow (no reds/office) Middle = 2 yellow (no reds/office) Low = 3 yellow (1 or more reds/office) Some behaviors may result in immediate office referral (causing physical harm, blatant disrespect, etc.)

Monthly Behavior Celebration Criteria High = No more than 3 yellow days Middle = 4-6 yellow days Low = 7 or more yellow days in the month; 1 or more red day; or any office referrals/timeout at the office

We travel to special classes for 5 day blocks of time. You will get a monthly calendar schedule. P.E. (tennis shoes) Art Music Library/Drama

Dress Code: Kindergarteners are very active beings. Please make sure their attire is appropriate to play and have fun in school. Our policy includes: No flip flops No tank tops Leggings should be worn with a tunic top Appropriate length of shorts and skirts.

Kindergarten does not use planners. Take Home Folders come home daily and will include behavior for the day. Please initial each evening.

Special School Supplies Needed: Large Towel for Rest Time Book Bag $20 Supply Fee

Parent Notes are welcome! Bus changes MUST be made in writing and turned in at the beginning of the day. Email is very convenient, but for urgent issues, please call. We are not always able to check email right away.

Field trips are valuable times to enhance our educational experience outside of the classroom. Per HCS policy, you must be an approved volunteer to chaperone on our trips. Please fill out a background check if this is something that is of interest to you. Please allow ample time for processing.

Calling all helpers!!!..... Per HCS policy, you must be an approved volunteer to work directly with students. Please fill out a background check if this is something that may be of interest to you. Opportunities may include: Cutting out and preparing materials at home Testing sight words or listening to students read Working with students that need extra help
