1. Eyepiece – 10x magnification Rotates to move pointer 2. Body Tube – carries image to ocular lens in eyepiece
3
3. Arm – supports the body tube & objective lenses 4. Nosepiece – revolves to change objective lenses from low to medium to high power magnification Nosepiece
4
5. Stage Clips – hold the slide on the stage of the microscope 6. Objective Lenses – rotate to change magnification Low = 4x Medium = 10x High = 40x

#7.
6
8. Microscope Slide – glass slide that holds the specimen 9. Stage – large platform that holds microscope slide and contains aperature (window that allows light to come through
7
10. Coarse Adjustment Knob – used to focus at low and medium magnification. Always turn knob down, never up.
8
11. Diaphragm – adjusts the amount of light that comes through the specimen (1 to 5) 1 = lowest light 5 = brightest light
9
12. Light Source – illuminates specimen and light carries image through the microscope to the eyepiece.
10
13. Fine Adjustment Knob – used for fine tuning the focus. At high power magnification, use only fine adjustment. 14. On/Off Switch 15. Base – supports microscope
14
Turn the coarse adjustment knob to lower the stage as far as it will go.
16
Place the slide on the stage, positioning the specimen directly over the center of the stage. Hold the slide in place with stage clips.
18
Look at the microscope from the side. Rotate the coarse adjustment knob to raise the stage until the low power objective lens almost touches the slide.
19
While looking through the eyepiece, focus downward with the coarse adjustment knob until the specimen is in focus. Never focus upward with the coarse adjustment!
20
To switch to medium power objective lens, look at the microscope from the side. Carefully revolve the nosepiece until the medium power objective lens clicks into place.
22
Looking through the eyepiece, turn the coarse adjustment knob until the image comes into focus. Never use the coarse adjustment at high power!!
23
Microscope Safety Always place the microscope gently on the counter, never tilt it or slide it across the counter. Position for easy access by both students.
24
Microscope Safety Carefully, position the cord to avoid tripping or having the microscope pulled off the counter.
25
Microscope Safety Clean all lenses with lens paper. Never use paper towel and never put your fingers on the lenses.
26
Microscope Safety When finished with the microscope, follow these steps: A) turn the switch off B) Unplug and wrap the cord securely around the base. C) Cover microscope. D) Place microscope between the gas jets on the lab counter.
27
Microscope Safety Never put your backpack on the counter when using the microscope. Always carry your backpack below waist level when entering or leaving the room.
