WHAT ARE THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF ART? On a sheet of paper write down as many as you can think of now.

CHECK YOUR LIST... DID YOU HAVE ART ELEMENTS?

...COLOR, LINE, SHAPE, or SPACE? VALUE, FORM, TEXTURE,

Maybe you had the PRINCIPLES? LIKE: UNITY, EMPHASIS, CONTRAST, RHYTHM, PROPORTION, BALANCE, PATTERN

YOUR PORTFOLIO WILL BE A WAY TO TAKE NOTES

STEP 1: Measure the Portfolio from Taped edge to Taped edge(x) and divide by 7. (x)/7=(y) The height of each box should be 3 inches. The width(y) of each box will be different based on the results of step 1. TAPE will be on edge of portfolio and will not be even-that is ok. Make it work.

MEASURE IT OUT -USE PENCIL TO DRAW THE GRID THEN GO OVER THE GRID LINES WITH SHARPIE

ONCE YOU HAVE THE GRID LINES COMPLETED GO OVER THEM WITH SHARPIE- ONE ROW OF BOXES WILL BE FOR THE ELEMENTS and should be labeled as such. IE: MAKE THE WORD ELEMENTS A BORDER AROUND EACH BOX.

ONCE YOU HAVE LABELED THE BOXES FOR ELEMENTS OF ART EACH BOX WILL BE FILLED WITH AN ELEMENT OF ART: LINE, SHAPE, FORM, SPACE, COLOR, VALUE, TEXTURE ELEMENTS

EACH BOX WILL HAVE: 1.The Name of the ELEMENT 2.Definition: in your own words 3.A Drawing depicting what the Element looks like (7 boxes completed = ELEMENTS Checkpoint 1) ELEMENTS

The next ROW of boxes will be for the PRINCIPLES OF ART EACH BOX WILL HAVE: 1.The Name of the PRINCIPLE 2.Definition: in your own words 3.A Drawing depicting what the PRINCIPLE looks like (7 boxes completed = PRINCIPLES Checkpoint 1) BALANCE, UNITY, EMPHASIS, CONTRAST, RHYTHM, PROPORTION, PATTERN/REPETITION

RUBRIC: 100 pts total ELEMENTS: labeled, defined, visual example met: 35pts PRINCIPLES: are completed with all three expectations met: 35pts CREATIVITY IN COMPLETION:15pts CRAFTSMANSHIP/NEATNESS: 15pts NOTE: ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES ARE 5 POINTS EACH, the points are broken up as follows 1 point = label, 2 points = definition, 2 points = drawing
