Medical Innovation Office Funding We complete the Mission by Working with projects in mid- or late- stages of development & likely to be commercialized Using pre-commercial development funds to: Make technologies more licensable Retire technical and commercial risks Providing product development and commercialization advice to faculty Actively encouraging new venture formation through hands-on help Taking a hands-on role in technology development

Medical Innovation Office Funding Eligability UW Faculty, preferably engineer/scientist – clinician teams Patent disclosure already accepted by WARF Funding Annual cycle with off-cycle opportunities Sponsored contracts $50,000 to $200,000 over two years Not an unrestricted grant program

Alumni Mentors: Experienced Alumni with business backgrounds that are available to mentor one or more faculty projects based on fit and interest. Weinert MBA Student Teams: Can be matched in Spring semester with projects and with Start- ups in Fall semester. Fellows program: MBA/Graduate students Other resources added in as needed Medical Innovation Office/WARF Working Group MIO Advisory Cmt. Angel investors Venture Capital GE, JnJ, Metronic, 3M technology experts UW reps Actively track 30-40 technologies Actively help mentor 6-10 technologies

WARF Accelerator 8 Three Market Focus Areas were identified together with WARF licensing managers to serve as coordinators for each area BioPharmaceuticals Medical Devices Computer Science and IT Accelerator Program model requires Market Focus to succeed Critical mass of IP assets/UW research capability in a particular market area Catalyst expertise in that same market area Attractive business opportunities in that same market area
