Transgender issues: How should Christians respond? As heated opinions about schools, bathrooms and transgender individuals dominate our social media feeds, how should we respond? Or should we? Those questions face Christians as they contemplate the debate sparked by directives given to U.S. public schools by the Education and Justice departments. (Read the "Dear Colleague Letter on Transgender Students.")

'As good stewards of God’s varied grace’ Joy McMillonJoy McMillon | Christian Chronicle June 2016 As I speak to Churches of Christ across the country, it is obvious that in many places wonderful options for women are opening up. Thousands actively serve the Lord — in traditional ways as well as some new ones. I also still run into capable, well-educated and spiritual women who struggle with depression and feel discouraged due to the lack of opportunities and attitudes of leaders of their churches. Rightly or wrongly, they perceive an unloving atmosphere where they are under-challenged and unappreciated.

THE LORD LOVES & VALUES WOMEN AS MUCH AS HE DOES MEN In SOUL men and women are equal. In ROLE they are different. (Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 5:23; 1 Timothy 2:12) The equal value of men and women is seen from the beginning (Genesis 1:26-27) This makes possible the unity of the body of Christ (Galatians 3:28; 1 Cor. 12; 1 Peter 3:7) Jesus and the apostles valued women’s souls! (Luke 10:38-42; 8:3; Acts 16:13-15)

THE ROLES OF MEN AND WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT This can also be seen from the beginning (Genesis 2:18, 22-24; 3:16-17; 1 Corinthians 11:7-9) The Woman's Role In the Home: A helper (Genesis 2:18) A manager (1 Timothy 5:14) A lover of husband & children (Titus 2:4) An enabler of the husband’s success (Prov. 31:10-27 )

THE ROLES OF MEN AND WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT The Woman's Role In the Church: Not public leadership of men (1 Timothy 3:2; 1 Corinthians 14:34-35; Acts 6:1-6; 15:2-13) Teaching women (Titus 2:3-5) Service (Romans 16:1-2; Acts 9:36-39) Working with their husbands to show others God’s truth in private situations (Acts 18:26) Being supportive of those who preach the gospel (Philippians 4:2-4; Acts 16:25)

If man’s greatest challenge is learning to submit to God…. If woman was created to help man… Can she help man learn to submit to God if she will not submit to man?
