Lab Rules/Expectation NO Horseplay with rubber bands –Including: snapping others, any misuse of the rubber band or meter stick. –Rubber bands are used for scientific experiment only –Offenses will be a referral!

EXPERIMENT PART 1 The thick and thin of it -- Procedure 1. Hold a ruler on its edge with the front flush with the edge of your chair back. 2. Place a narrow rubber band so that one end of it just catches the end of the ruler. a) Measure the rubber band as if it were folded flat on the table. 3. Pull the other end of the rubber band back 3 cm beyond its normal unstretched length and hold it down flat against the ruler with one finger. 4. Safely release the rubber band, taking special care that NO people will be struck when it is released. 5. Measure the distance from the end of the table to the back of where the rubber band comes to rest (see above). 6. Repeat steps 1-5 three more times with the narrow rubber bands. 7. Repeat steps 1-6 for medium and wide rubber bands.

Measure the distance from the end of the table to the back of where the rubber band comes to rest (see above). 6. Repeat steps 1-5 three more times with the medium rubber band. 7. Repeat steps 1-6, stretching the rubber band 5,6, 7, 8 and 9 cm beyond its normal length. – BE CAREFUL
