The Literacy topic of ‘Fairy Tales’ enabled the pupils to test the properties of Materials. Pupils were asked to help solve the problem of keeping The Three Little Pigs’ safe from the ‘Huff and Puff’ of the wolf ( the wind) Their question was: Which is the best material to use to make a house withstand the wind (windproof)? Year 1 had great fun working scientifically to solve this problem
3
We gather our resources. We will build our houses with: paper, popcorn and sweets, plastic, playdoh, brick and wood
4
We think the paper house will stay strong against the wind.
5
We will build a plastic house. We predict it will withstand the wind and protect the little pigs.
6
We couldn’t wait to test our house. The wolf, ‘Huffed and Puffed’ just like a strong wind.
7
This house is built of wood. We think it will be a good material to withstand the ‘Huff and Puff ‘of the wind.
8
We will make our paper house a roof and strong sides to withstand the wind
9
We tested our houses. It was a fair test because We kept the same: measuring equipment (cm), the same Wolf’s blow (hairdryer), the same size house, We changed: materials (wood, plastic, popcorn, play doh (clay), brick and paper)
10
Our Conclusion After lots of testing and observations we know that wood, plastic and clay did not move in the wind. However, the best and most strongest material to build your house with is brick. P.S DO NOT USE PAPER, POPCORN OR SWEETS AS IT WILL BLOW AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! Hope this information helps you!
