The Growth of Trade and Communities of the Nile By Matthew Johnston and Tym Diehl.

The settlements appear -Around 6000 B.C., hunting and fishing communities are found in Nubia along the Nile river -Around 5000 B.C., farming communities are found in Nubia and Egypt along the Nile. -When these settlements grew, so did their trade.

Nile Life -The inhabitants of the Delta build their villages along the fertile river beds which made farming easier. -The rest of the people living along the Nile build scattered villages along the banks of the Nile River. -The Nubians had less farmland so they had to add fish and birds such as ducks to their diets.

Egyptian trade - Egypt would send boats up the Nile and have them trade with nations along the Mediterranean Sea. They would bring back items such as cedar from the East coast of the Mediterranean. - The Egyptian land caravans would travel to the Red Sea ports and Mesopotamia. They would carry items such as gold and silver with them.

Nubian trade -Because of Cataracts the Nubians had to send caravans to their trade spots. - They carried ebony wood and ostrich feathers. Each caravan consisted of about 300 donkeys and would travel all over Africa and southwest Asia to trade.
