Honors Stats 3 Day 5
2
Do Now 1) Round 2 Match game! Turn all the cards over and match the examples to the bias 2) Check your HW: Questions??
3
Today WE WILL BE ABLE TO DEFINE AND IDENTIFY SAMPLING METHODS
4
Remember: Steps to make Sample Survey 1. Define the population you want to describe 2. Say what you want to measure about the population (what info you are gathering) 3. Decide how to choose a representative sample that AVOIDS BIAS by choosing a SAMPLING METHOD
5
Sampling Methods 1. Systematic Sample 2. Simple Random Sample 3. Cluster Sample 4. Stratified Sample *5. Convenience/Self-selected Sample
6
Systematic Sample An ordered sample, every n th subject
7
Simple Random Sample Each set of n elements selected for the sample has an equal chance of selection
8
Cluster Sample When a population is divided into groups and the groups are chosen at random (the groups should represent the population)
9
Stratified Sample The population is divided into subpopulations defined by a commonality (homogeneous) and random samples are drawn from each subpopulation
10
Make Notecards Take 10 minutes to make notecards for each Sampling Method and for each Bias
11
Examples of Sampling Methods Packet Side 1: Let’s do together The Rest: In groups
