2 Overview Purpose of “Prerequisite, Corequisite, Recommended Preparation Content Review Form” Review helpful materials and resources to complete the form Describe the step by step process to complete the form

3 Definition Prerequisite: “A condition of enrollment that a student is required to meet in order to demonstrate current readiness for enrollment in a course or educational program.” Students must complete all prerequisite classes with a satisfactory grade of “A”, “B”, “C”, “CR”, or “P”. Examples Physics 105 (General Physics) Prerequisite: Math 102 or Math 110 History 117 (History of the United States) Prerequisite: Eligibility for Engl 120 or ESL 151

4 Definition Corequisite: “A condition of enrollment consisting of a course that a student is required to simultaneously take in order to enroll in another course.” Examples Music 105 (Musicianship II) Corequisite: Music 108 Child Development 141 (Teaching Seminar) Corequisite: CHLDV 180, 181, or 182

5 Definition Recommended Preparation: “A condition of enrollment that a student is advised, but not required, to meet before or in conjunction with enrollment in a course or educational program.” Examples Linguistics 101 (Intro to Linguistics) Recommended Prep: Eligibility for English 101 Biology 115 (Human Anatomy) Recommended Prep: Biology 115 for students with limited background in biological sciences

6 Why do we need the form? Find appropriate prerequisite, corequisite, or recommended preparation for new course or existing course changes Prevent establishing prerequisites arbitrarily Maintain records to document that content review was completed

10 Steps to Complete Matrix List exit standards of prerequisite, corequisite, or recommended preparation in the left column of table Place a checkmark where exit standards and entry expectations match in skill Submit completed form to Research and Planning
