iLab Proposal Presentation Nana Kim EE 496 September 22, 2007
2
Overview What is iLab? Game Plan Goals Potential Problems What I Expect to Learn Schedule
3
What is iLab? Combines: DC Power Supply Function Generator Digital Multimeter (DMM) Oscilloscope Spectrum Analyzer Main Focus Affordable Easy-to-use Project Distribution Generator (Spring ’07) Probing (Fall ’07)
4
What is iLab? USB Breadboard Generator Ports LCD Probes
5
PSoC figures from www.cypress.com Game Plan Plan A: Use PSoC (Programmable System on Chip) as much as possible Take advantage of PSoC’s Dynamic Reconfiguration capabilities to accommodate the single set of probes Plan A &1/2: Research how equipment can be scaled down Problems: Production price increases Circuit becomes more complex Not enough time to design all components
6
Goals Full iLab schematic Explanation of how iLab will execute each command Data Flow Design packets Protocol Speed Error Detection and Handling Simulate data exchange between computer and iLab (iLab being substituted by another computer)
7
Potential Problems Figuring out PSoC takes too long Lack of research material PSoC utility is limited (Plan A &1/2) Simulation/Debugging problems Doesn’t work Procrastination No Spring Break
8
What I Expect to Learn… How to send/receive data through USB How lab equipment is built Communication between PC and other devices Problem Solve Time management
