2  Mary Flannery O’Connor was born on March 25, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia.  Edward and Regina – her parents.  Roman Catholic  1938 – Milledgeville, Georgia.  Father’s death at age 15.

3  Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University)  The Corinthian  Cartoonist  Writings which showed satire and comedy.  State University of Iowa (now the University of Iowa)  World Famous Writer’s Program led by Paul Engle.

4  Accepted to Yaddo  Her first novel, Wise Blood, was published in 1952.  O’Connor herself called, this novel “unconventional.”

5  In 1955, her short story collection called A Good Man is Hard to Find was published.  Includes texts from class, “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” and “Good Country People.”  Her second novel, The Violent Bear it Away, was published in 1960.

6 “A typical Flannery O’Connor story consists of its most vital level in people talking, clucking their endless reiterations of clichés about life, death and the universe.” (Klinkowitz and Wallace, 2521)  Unconventional.  Violence and shock tactics  Southern dialect  Dark humor
