Tips: –Create a first good impression –Turn discomfort into your advantage –Reduce nervousness –Organise context (logical flow) –Attention to Body language –Use humour –Use visual aids –Connect and interact with audience –Stick to what you know –Time constraints –Act and speak ethically –Start strong and close stronger Public Speaking

Communication in Mother tongue Non verbal signals are also part of communication process i.e. facial expressions, eye movements, posture etc. Note: –culture may input different meanings to signals. Agreement is indicated by ups and down head nods in American culture but in India is side to side head movements Paralinguistic features

Communication in Mother tongue Pay attention to: –Tactile communication: firm handshake, nod on back –Vocal communication: changes in loudness, pitch, rhythm –Proxemics: how you use physical space to communicate (territory things like a clean desk, personal space zones) Active Listening also plays an essential part for effective communication: –it involves eye contact, head nods & facial expressions, avoidance of distracting actions, asking questions, paraphrasing, avoiding interruption Tip: –It is essential that people are aware of the cltures and communication conventions of those whom they propose to meet in order to avoid communication problems.
