Introduce the Quote What is your quote going to talk about? Use 1 sentence to transition into the next piece of textual evidence Ex 1: Washington addresses our unique ability to stay neutral due to geographic location. Ex 2: Washington also talks about the location of the United States.

Explain the Quote in your OWN WORDS EX: Belligerently- Acting belligerent NOT USEFUL to define a word by using it in the definition. Same goes with explaining a quote by using the words from the quote. Explain: What is the quote saying? What is the meaning behind it? Washington is referring to how the United States is separate from Europe. Since the US is separated by an ocean we do not have to be allies with European countries. We can stay separate since we are isolated across the ocean. Connect to Thesis: This is a luxury we have that makes Neutrality much easier for us that it would be for European Nations.
