7.  Moghul emperor Akbar the great introduced the calendar more than 400 years ago about 1556 AD.  The Bengali New Year is subsequently known as Bangabda.  The day is a national holiday which falls on April 14.  In Bangladesh, the official amended calendar designed by the Bangla Academy. 8. Chhayanat artists open the day with tagore’s famous song. Dhaka University students and teachers of the Institute of Fine Arts bring out carrying festoon, placard, mask, banner, poster to celebrate the day. 12. Typically Bangla Food People start the day with the traditional breakfast of paanta vhaat (cooked rice soaked with water), green chillies, onion and fried hilsha fish.
