Moghul emperor Akbar the great introduced the calendar more than 400 years ago about 1556 AD. The Bengali New Year is subsequently known as Bangabda. The day is a national holiday which falls on April 14. In Bangladesh, the official amended calendar designed by the Bangla Academy. Chhayanat artists open the day with tagore’s famous song. Dhaka University students and teachers of the Institute of Fine Arts bring out carrying festoon, placard, mask, banner, poster to celebrate the day. The main event of the day is to open a halkhata (fresh account book). Inaugurating Program

The most colorful Pahela Baishakh Day’s festival takes place in Dhaka. People gather early in the morning under the Banyan Tree at Ramna Park. People attend functions painting tattoos on face. Wear colorful painted masks Program Activity Cultural Program

Typically Bangla Food People start the day with the traditional breakfast of paanta vhaat (cooked rice soaked with water), green chillies, onion and fried hilsha fish. Traditional Bengali dresses. Young women wear white share with red borders and adorn themselves with bangles, flowers and tips. Young men wear white pyjamas and kurta. On Pahela Baishakh, as a holiday, students use to go to different places such as Romana Botomul in Dhaka capital city and DC Hill in Chittagong to enjoy Pahela Baishakh celebration.
