Materials and methods Intragastric Balloon BIB System - -/Bioenterics Intragastric Balloon INAMED, CA/ The BIB System balloon is placed in the stomach of 151 patients for 180 days Women - 99, Men - 52

BIB System Placement and Inflaction The patient is prepared according to hospital protocol for gastroscopy /short intravenous anaesthetization/ Fill the balloon 480-680 ml 0,9% NaCl coloured blue

Rekommendation after intervention Diet to 1200 kcal with low IG /glycemic index/ More physical activity Healthy eating program

Results Weight loss in all patients /148/ An average weight loss 24.6 kg during 180 days /21.6% weight/ An average overweight reduce 59.1%

Treatment: 2-3 days gastric discomfort, feeling of nausea and vomiting following balloon placement as the digestive system adjusts to the presence of the balloon /95% patients/ Heartburn - temporary Relapse into gastric discomfort – 2 patients /1.3%/ Balloon Replacement before 180 days – 4 patients /2- intolerance, 2 – at patient’s own request/

Complications: There are no serious complications after the use of the BIB System In one case the balloon was removed because of small demage of mucous membrane of cardia gastris

Conclusion: The BIB System is indicated in weight – loss therapy for obese patients who have significant health risk related to their obesity and who have failed to achieve and maintain weight loss with a supervised weight-control program. The risk of balloon deflation and intestinal obstruction is significantly low when balloon is removed at the time of 6 months or earlier.
