2 What is the travel and tourism industry? The travel and tourism industry incorporates any enterprise involved in business or personal travel, including airlines, lodging, restaurants, cruise lines, rental cars, and travel agents.

3 How large is the travel and tourism industry? The travel and tourism industry: Includes 7.7 million U.S. jobs. Is the first, second, or third largest employer in 29 of the 50 U.S. states. Is 97 percent small businesses. Generated $117 billion in tax revenue for U.S. local, state, and federal governments in 2008. Paid $194 billion in salaries in the United States in 2008.
