2 You need to have tickets for the following: Orientation and Welcome 2013 University Shuttle Service to Residences (free of charge) Certain Evening Performances (free of charge) Distinguished Lecture Series (free of charge) International Society Barbecue - Sunday 15 th September (£6) Core Presentations (free of charge)

3 Orientation and Welcome 2013 This presentation has been created to guide you through the various booking processes. The adjacent hand symbol indicates where you need to select on the relevant page.

4 University Shuttle Service to Residences (USSR) Orientation and Welcome 2013 University Shuttle Service to Residences (free of charge) The University runs a free coach shuttle service for new international students between Manchester Airport and University Accommodation. The service runs from Tuesday 10 th – Sunday 15 th September from 0800 - 2130 Booking Form for USSR Whilst the service is free we require you to book onto the service in order for us to know how many people will be arriving at what time and which day they will arrive. You can book onto the service using the link at the bottom of this page*. * Please note that the USSR service is primarily for unaccompanied students travelling to University Accommodation. If you are travelling with your parents, or are staying in private halls you should not book onto the service. Instead we advise that you look out for our student ambassadors on your arrival, we will then be able to decide if there is enough space on the shuttle service, or alternatively we will guide you to alternative arrangements: bus, train or taxi.

Please note that it may take up to a week to receive your e-ticket. Once you do, please print it off and bring it with you in your hand luggage. Please check that your confirmation email and e-ticket hasn’t gone into your junk/spam folder.

9 Orientation Programme: Core Presentations Orientation and Welcome 2013 Core Presentations (free of charge) All incoming students are strongly recommended to attend one of the core presentation sessions on either: >Friday 13 th 0930 - 1130 >Saturday 14 th 1000 – 1200 >Sunday 15 th 1000 - 1200 Booking Form For Orientation The presentations will be delivered by staff from across the University covering essential information relevant to all International and EU students, regardless of your course.

If you change your mind about which presentation you would like to attend, please inform us at: orientation@manchester.ac.uk and we will amend your booking. orientation@manchester.ac.uk

13 Evening Performances Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Performances (free of charge) For certain evening performances we request that you book, one to ensure you have a place at the event and second so that we can anticipate how popular the events are likely to be. You only need to book for the following evening performances: >Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Sunday 15 th 18:00 >Harmony Gospel Choir, Monday 16 th 18:30 >’Two’ A play by Jim Cartwright, Tuesday 17 th 18:00 >’Two’ A play by Jim Cartwright, Wednesday 18 th 18:00 >’We are all International Now’, Wednesday 18 th 18:30 >An Evening of Discovery at the John Rylands Library, Thursday 19 th 18:00 >A Night at the Museum, Friday 20 th 19:00 >Pangea, Saturday 21 st 20:00 All other events/activities mentioned in the Orientation Guide you do not need to book for, entry will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Turn up 15-20 minutes before the start of the event to ensure your place. Evening Events Booking

14 Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Events Booking Evening Performances Using the link in the bottom left, open the booking area for the Student’s Union events. Using the ‘Harmony Gospel Choir’ as an example, follow the same steps to book onto an evening performance.

15 Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Performances Select the BOOK NOW option

16 Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Performances If you are booking an event before you have completed IT sign-up you will need to register using this link. (Please note that this registration is separate to your University registration)

17 Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Performances If you are booking an event before you have completed IT sign-up you will need to select Guest. If you have already completed IT sign-up you will be able to continue as a student. (Please note that it does not matter which way you do this as this is completely separate to the University registration process)

18 Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Performances Fill in your details and click Register At the bottom of the page you will be prompted to enter the ‘captcha’ This is very sensitive so may take a few goes to get right.

19 Once you’ve clicked Register, you should receive a confirmation email. Please click on the link contained with your email which will take you to the following page. Orientation and Welcome 2013 Please check that your confirmation email and e-ticket hasn’t gone into your junk/spam folder.

20 Orientation and Welcome 2013 The link should take you to this page. In order to book tickets you need to select the > and increase the quantity. You are allowed a maximum of 2 tickets per event. Then select ADD TO CART Evening Performances

22 Orientation and Welcome 2013 Evening Performances You have now completed the booking process. Print off your ticket and bring it with you to the event along with your Student ID card (which you will collect during Orientation).

23 Distinguished Lecture Series Orientation and Welcome 2013 Distinguished Lectures (free of charge) This year we have introduced a series of lectures from distinguished members of the academic community which will be delivered every evening throughout Welcome Week (16 th -20 th September). What’s On? >Monday 16 th 'Computers and Brains’ - by Professor Steve Furber, ICL Professor of Computer Engineering >Tuesday 17 th 'Beneath the Bandages: Mummies, Magic and Manchester’ -by Dr Joyce Tyldesley >Wednesday 18 th Public History Event: by Professor Michael Wood “in Conversation” with Tristram Hunt MP >Thursday 19 th 'The Uses of Science’ - by Professor Sir John Sulston >Friday 20 th 'Dinosaurs, trace-metals and the origins of Life' - by Dr Phillip Manning, Reader in Palaeobiology You do not need to book tickets until you have arrived in Manchester but may find it easier to book tickets before you leave your home country so that you can print off tickets before you come. Also the earlier the book, the more likely you are to secure a place for the event.

25 International Society Barbecue - Sunday 15 th September (£6) Orientation and Welcome 2013 Barbecue (£6) Tickets are available in person from the International Society. You cannot book these tickets prior to your arrival in Manchester. Tickets for this event are limited and it is often a very popular event so we would recommend you collect a ticket sooner rather than later.
