What will you learn? Foundational knowledge in: Dental terminology Dental morphology and occlusion as they relate to all aspects of dentistry How teeth are shaped, how they fit together, and how they function as a unit

What will you learn? Develop hand skills while learning to fabricate teeth that are anatomically correct FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION Self-evaluation A key component in all laboratory courses

Why? Communicate effectively with your colleagues Understand the ideal prior to diagnosing pathology Evaluate existing dentition, restorations and occlusal relationships Restore teeth to proper form (and consequently proper function!)

Why? No one is going to evaluate your work for you when you are out in the real world. Learn to be your own critic!

But I want to be an oral surgeon Know which tooth the referring provider wants you to remove Understand the anatomy of the crown, roots and surrounding bone Different teeth are removed in different ways A Surgeon need to use his/her hands, too

For the aspiring orthodontists Wouldn’t it be great to understand ideal tooth relationships? In this course, you will learn how each individual tooth works in conjunction with the others. Why are proper form and alignment integral to proper function?

What is waxing? Sculpting teeth to ideal form through a process of adding and carving wax

Historically Comes from lost-wax casting technique Used in jewelry making and has been around for centuries Also used in fabrication of crowns and bridges

Now the Art of waxing is employed in the pressing of ceramics

Waxing The vast majority of you will be working with your hands when you graduate, and you have to start somewhere. Wax is cheap and forgiving!
