What is a Spreadsheet? Misconceptions Excel is a specific program made by the Microsoft corporation, but the program has become so popular that often the name "Excel" is mistaken for a generic name for any spreadsheet program. Function The Excel spreadsheet program can be simple to use to make calculations, but it is also capable of very complex calculations that would take individuals without computers a long time to complete. Composition The Excel program consists of rows and columns that combine to make cells. A page of these cells is called a worksheet, and a group of worksheets is called a workbook.

Finding values such as profit or loss. Calculating repayment plans for loans or mortgages. Finding the average, maximum, or minimum values in a specified range of data. graphing or charting data to assist users in identifying data trends. sorting and filtering data to find specific information

What's in a Spreadsheet? Spreadsheets are made up of columns rows and their intersections are called cells In each cell there may be the following types of data labels - (text with no numerical value) constants - (just a number -- constant value) formulas - (a mathematical equation used to calculate)
