Moodle My Feedback Report Allows students and staff to easily view grades & feedback across Moodle courses. It is available from Moodle.org as an open source plugin. https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback

Project Aims Raise the visibility of feedback to students & staff. Display feedback in a single view so students may identify common areas for improvement. Increase staff adoption of Moodle to provide fast, quality and consistent feedback.

Shows feedback for: Moodle Assignments (including offline and group) Turnitin Assignments (v1 & 2) – (linked only)| Quizzes Workshops (for peer assessments) Manual grade items Feedback for further modules can be added as required (with code adjustments). What it does https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback

What it looks like now https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback

My feedback available from the Moodle My Home page. And this block had also been added to Moodle courses.

Benefits for students Students can work with their personal tutors to: Access their grades and feedback quickly* 3, 7. Easily see grading criteria/rubrics (where available)* 2. Compare feedback across assessments to find commonalities* 9. Reflect on how to improve in future assessments* 10. *https://www.ucl.ac.uk/teaching-learning/pdfs/NUS-assessment-and-feedback-benchmarking-tool.pdf

Benefits for module tutors Tutors can see feedback and grades for courses they teach to: check student progress. identify those who need extra support. check students have acted upon previous feedback. see when students view their feedback.

My Feedback Report project One stream of a wider integration programme. Pilot in UCL Moodle started in October 2015 with ~750 students. Further development ongoing during pilot. Full rollout across UCL expected in 2016. Project Team: Project Manager Business Analyst Technical Lead Moodle developer Business Advisor

Student evaluation https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback First release Focus groups (April 2015) Questionnaire (November 2015) Second release Questionnaire (March 2016) Focus groups (March 2016)

What do students say? https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback Students find it useful. Still difficult to find feedback. “The class mean could at times be encouraging but also demotivating”. Probably wouldn’t use self-reflecting notes.

Students asked for new features. https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback Previous years’ feedback. Performance against class average. Assessment weightings. Formative / summative assessment filter. Notification when feedback is given.

Students asked for changes to practice. https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback More feedback. Grades and feedback from final exams & formal grades. Digitised hardcopy assessments (e.g. lab reports, architectural drawings).

Thoughts on the students’ comments https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback The report highlights an absence of electronic feedback. In some cases students don’t know where to view their feedback (quizzes, Turnitin). We would like to enable reminders for feedback using the Moodle event monitoring system - this is turned off due to potential performance issues.event monitoring system

Current and past years’ feedback. Personal Tutor and Module Tutor views. Programme administrators view (all students in department). Under review… Filter for summative and formative assessments. Performance score (relative to class mean). Assessment Calendar to enable assessment dates to be spaced out. What’s next? https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback

Takeaways https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=report_myfeedback Communication to staff and students is difficult. Turnitin feedback cannot be displayed directly in the report (only linked). Personal Tutors cannot access the assessment feedback, unless they are enrolled on the course. Permissions need to be set at site level, so applying them to the student or teacher roles (course level) won’t work.
