Behaviors or actions that you (mostly) have control over, which lead to injury/illness In small groups, list as many of these factors as you can think of….

Smoking/tobacco Alcohol and other drugs Risky sexual behaviors Depression/Suicide Homicide/Violence Poor nutrition Lack of physical activity Accidents (unintentional injuries)

Brainstorm prevention strategies for the lifestyle risk factors we discussed last class… Ex: One way to prevent yourself from succumbing to tobacco-related illnesses is to not start smoking in the first place…

We have control over most of these behaviors, yet we still have individuals that become victims of their effects…. WHY??

PEER PRESSURE? MEDIA? ADVERTISING? LACK OF KNOWLEDGE? INVINCIBILITY? PRESSURES FROM HOME?

We have CHOICES Knowledge can equate power if we are willing…
