Jesus, the Bread of Life Chapter 11

The apostle, Peter, said Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Jesus knew people would oppose and question his teachings. He knew that his mission of salvation would require him to suffer and die.

Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus would save all people from sin and save them for fullness of life with God. eternal life- a life of happiness with God forever.

Only Jesus could satisfy people's hunger and thirst for God- he was all the food they needed for eternal life.

Last Supper Jesus' breaking of the bread and sharing of the cup was an offering of himself for our salvation. -Jesus shared the gift of the Eucharist with all of his disciples. Real presence- the true presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. transubstantiation- the change of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ

Agony in the Garden Jesus went to a garden and was preparing to give his life for all of humanity. Jesus was in such agony as he prayed (sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground).

Judas' betrayel Judas betrayed Jesus in the garden. - he greeted Jesus with a kiss, identifying him, so those that came could arrest him. Jesus was taken to the Sanhedrin, the Supreme religious court. -Jesus admitted that he was the Messiah, Son of God. - the high priest, Caiphas accused Jesus of blasphemy.

Jesus was then taken to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. Pilate let the crowds decide Jesus' fate, which was crucifixion. Judas took his own life because of regret.

Jesus' death In the Gosels, we can find many details about the suffering that Jesus experienced before he died. They forced Jesus to carry his cross to Golgotha, a hillside in Jerusalem. - it means "place of the skull." - today, it is called Calvary.

Jesus was nailed to the cross. At about 3 o'clock, Jesus took his last breath. Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus' body, wrapped it for burial, and laid it in an unusual tomb.

Good Friday As Catholics, we recall this day as Good Friday because it was the day Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross. In Jesus' dying, the miracle of our salvation had just begun.
