WPV Facts: Between 2011 and 2013, workplace assaults ranged from 23,540 and 25,630 annually, 70 to 74% of work place assaults are in healthcare and social service settings. For healthcare workers, assaults comprise 10-11% of workplace injuries involving days away from work, as compared to 3% of injuries of all private sector employees. Workplace violence in the medical occupations represented 10.2% of all workplace violence incidents. Work Place Violence Prevention Committee Goal: Create a culture where workplace violence is an open topic engaging the entire community. o Understand current risks o Understand current occurrences o Recommend strategies to decrease risks & occurrences o Provide support to staff to prevent o Provide support to staff to treat o Study literature and best practices o Open dialogue about fears o Innovate solutions Multi Disciplinary, Multi Departmental, Team approach! 7
