ARCHETYPE: situations, characters, or images that appear again and again in literature that reflect universal characteristics of human experience. 5 Gilgamesh is “1/3 human and 2/3 a god” who abuses his great power as king of Uruk (modern day Iraq).

6 The gods send an equal to do battle with Gilgamesh: the hairy beast- man, Enkidu.
