Info-Tech Research Group2 Executive Summary Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) is the next step in mobility for many organizations. Use this blueprint to stay ahead of the game and develop a plan to implement EMM. EMM is the evolution of Mobile Device Management (MDM), covering more than simple device management, extending to mobile app, data, financial, security, and help desk management. EMM has a lot of moving parts. A well thought-out implementation plan will help you cover the necessary requirements to properly launch and use EMM in your organization. Unlike most IT initiatives which surround the IT department, EMM must focus on the end users while involving help desk. Assess your current state to get a better idea of the mobile management needs of your organization. Selecting the right EMM vendor is important. Before jumping in, make key choices such as deciding between cloud and on-premise, identify integration requirements, and determine necessary features. Make sure to test out the solution before committing. IT must prepare help desk for changes brought about by EMM and develop a steering committee to guide the evolution of EMM. End users will be most affected by EMM. Test your solution using a pilot group, develop policies that align with your organization and employees, and perform end-user training to promote engagement. Communicate your EMM implementation plan effectively to receive buy-in from executives and key stakeholders.

Info-Tech Research Group11 It’s not a question of deciding if you need EMM. Your challenge is to implement it. If your company has more than 50 mobile devices used for work, you need EMM Enterprise mobility management has a lot of moving parts. Jumping in blind won’t be easy. You’ll find yourself asking many questions: Which features do I need? How will it benefit users? Which vendor can meet those needs? How do I get users prepared? How do I get IT prepared? How do I roll out my selected EMM implementation? How do I communicate these plans in a business case/plan? “The biggest thing is having an [EMM] implementation plan rolled out first. You need to know how to phase it.” -- Phil Martin, Director of IT, Montgomery County Less than 50 devices? Manual ActiveSync policy management, informal policies, and ad-hoc support may suffice for now. However, mobility is here to stay; read the rest of this section to explore what EMM can accomplish, and re-evaluate your need for it on a regular basis.
