2
Current Status Mr. DP Bera joined as programmer on 15-11-2010 Trial Experiments are being conducted on actual Fault simulator Virtualization of the same in in progress
3
Experiment 1: Static Unbalance Studies Un equal weight distribution within a body that results in a periodic force when the body is rotated. Static unbalance: This happens when centre of gravity of rotor is different from the rotational centre of the shaft. A rotor with static unbalance will rest on a knife edge with heavy side down. It can be measured by determining a mass M at some radius r which must be attached to side opposite of the shaft.
4
Aim 1. To study the variation of static unbalance force generated in a rotor wrt: 1. unbalanced mass 2. rpm 2. To study the correlation of static unbalance force and the vibration level
5
Centre of gravity off-centre Balance masses on different planes Effect of rotation on unbalanced rotor
6
Objectives Virtually add unbalance mass on a rotor and study its effects on imbalance force generated vibration level, at rotational speed, in these directions.
7
Equipment Required (Virtual mode) Virtual unbalance simulator machine Virtual masses Virtual vibration meter
8
Lab based on actual experimental data Actual unbalance simulator machine Actual accelerometer Actual masses for creating unbalance.

Experiment 1. Put the accelerometers on the housings of two bearings on either side of the rotor. (One horizontal, one vertical and One in the axial direction), (Av, AH,AAX,BV,BH, BAX) 2. Connect the accelerometers to the display unit. 3. Put on the machine and select its rpm = 100 rpm. 4. Collect the readings. (AV,AH,AAX,BV,BH,BAX) 5. Change the rpm = 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 etc and repeat the experiment. 6. Put the 25 gm mass on one of the disc and repeat steps 1-5. 7. Increase mass to 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 grams and repeat steps 1-5. 8. Tabulate results of experiments. 9. These data need to be kept in the database permanently stored for any future retrieval /usage for extrapolation. 10. Develop regression models for relating vibration levels and various factors 11. Compute imbalance force for various scenarios. 12. Plot these forces Vs speed and mass for making inferencing
10
Calculate imbalance force by m = mass in kg r = radius in m = angular velocity N = rpm of rotor F = Force due to unbalance in KgM/sec 2 Measure vibration levels at different bearings (in three directions) by actual lab experiment Correlate this with force generated
