Personally identifiable information (PII) from education records is confidential and protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) OSPA Central 2.0 website is accessible to the public. PII should NOT be uploaded.

Removing student’s name…and any other information that would enable someone to identify the student Also called “redacting” Be careful of markers that do not totally black out the information.

4 Board-approved purposes: 1. Enrollment / recruitment to college, higher educ. institute 2. School communication tools (programs, yearbooks, etc.) 3. Broward health officials to address health public health conditions (disease spread) 4. Class reunion committees

FERPA allows disclosures to the accreditation review team…without prior parental consent. Disclosure must be notated on FERPA Disclosure Log (official form). A separate log must be completed for each student whose information is disclosed. (see next slide for the log)

FERPA Disclosure Log NOT needed when disclosing to the accreditation review team if: 1. You have parent’s (or student over age 18) written consent. 2. You de-identify (redact) the information.

Do not post sensitive information, for example, critical comments in iObservation. Ensure staff member has not requested an exemption.
