2. ANOTACE: Prezentace je určena k seznámení nebo rozšíření znalostí o Světovém Dni Země. Je určena žákům 2. stupně ZŠ, event. 5.třídy. Žáci se nejdříve seznámí se základními informacemi týkajícími se uvedeného svátku a zopakují si základní pravidla ekologického chování člověka a uvědomí si, jak by sami svým chováním mohli přispět k ochraně svého životního prostředí. V další části se dozvědí něco o aktivitách známých osobností ke Dni Země a o důležitosti deštných pralesů pro náš život. Na konci prezentace si děti mohou zahrát Bingo a udělat si malý ekologický test.

4. The symbol on the flag is a combination of the letters E and O taken from the words Environment and Organism. Later the flag used the Greek letter theta (Θθ is a warning symbol) or the peace symbol. The Ecology Flag is a symbol of Earth Day.

5. Is ecology important to us? In the USA Earth Day is celebrated on 22nd April to make people realize that we all need to protect our environment. Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970. It was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator, and an environmental activist,Wisconsin. Over 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day with various activities, many of which took place in elementary schools and universities. Within a few years the the world was celebrating an entire week of activities leading up to Earth Day. Now it is celebrated in more than 175 countries by 500 million people. Dancing tree

6. EARTH DAY - EVERY DAY On Earth Day is a great time to learn about our planet and how to take care of it! REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE Earth Day is a day to remember to take care of our planet. We can keep Earth clean by following the rule of “reduce, reuse, recycle”. Reduce means use less. We can reduce our use of resources like water or petrol. Reuse means use again, rather than throw things away. We can reuse many things, such as jars, plastic bags or boxes. Recycle means to make something new from something old. We can keep Earth clean by recycling materials such as paper, plastic or aluminium. If we take these materials to a recycling center, they can be used again in a different way.

7. On Earth Day we remind ourselves and everyone on Earth that we must do these things. We must do these things every day, not just on Earth Day. We must all do our part and we can make a difference. 8. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP YOUR ENVIRONMENT RIGHT NOW? Change traditional bulbs to the new fluorescent lights, which last longer and need less energy. Turn your computer off at night. Composting Investigate the science of composting scraps and its advantages to our environment. Water Conservation Embark to discover how you can conserve water in every daily routine. Gas Emissions Discover how and why gas emissions contribute to the crisis of global warming and have a big impact on our planet. Natural Resources Learn to identify renewable versus nonrenewable resources, their origins, and how humans use them in their daily lives. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE to Save the Earth!

10. EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES Benefit concerts take place around the world. The concerts fight against climate changes. Many famous people support environmental protection, e.g. Pierce Brosnan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sting, Bon Jovi etc. Earth Run for Water took place in 2010 around the world to secure water and help to solve the water crisis. 11. Take a break and thank a rainforest during Earth Week 2012! On Earth Day take a moment to think about the value of our rainforests and appreciate the air around you. This year, do something to make an impact.... Take a breath, thank a rainforest! Through photosynthesis, rainforests play a vital role in the processing of atmospheric carbon dioxide into breathable oxygen. Every hectare of rainforest absorbs approximately one ton of carbon dioxide per year. Currently, rainforests are being cut or burned down at a rate of about 0.6 hectares (1.5 acres) per second, to make way for pastures and cash crops or to harvest timber. We’re cutting down our own life source. RainforestPartnership.org is working with local communities to change that.
