7. Today is Earth Day. Here are a few amazing costumes! We only have one earth and it is up to aall of us to keep it healthy! Here is a special informational message and earth day Challenge from Isabelle and Ben representing Mrs. Hemphill’s class.

8. Since Earth Day is today, I want to ask you, do you put your used items from lunch in the blue recycling bin or in the compost bin? Well, I really want to help the Earth but sometimes I just forget. Well don’t feel that bad because you can start now by recycling and composting. What do I need to know?

9. I’m glad you asked that. One way to recycle is to use the compost bin. You can put fruits, veggies, and also egg shells in the green compost bin. If you can’t remember, above the green bin is a poster showing what is compostable. This bin is between the lunch lines. I must admit that I don’t put my apple cores in the compost bin. What exactly happens to the stuff in the compost bin?

10. The compost goes to a special area where it is turned into good fertilizer to help plants grow faster and better. Another way we can recycle…

11. Oh I know another way that we can easily recycle, place plastic items in the blue recycle bin. But only the plastic bottles with a neck or a spout. No other plastic is recyclable in Virginia Beach. Also, you can easily recycle aluminum foil (with no food on it, crumbs are okay), paper (not tissues or napkins), cardboard, glass, and metals. The best bin for these items is the small blue bin by the green compost bin.

12. I’ve noticed many kids are not putting the correct items in the right bin. Everybody is in a rush but I am going to take time to recycle correctly.

13. Awesome! Let’s all get in the habit of recycling and placing the compost in the right bin and the recycling in the right bin. How about a goal to put the correct items in the right spot every time? Sure. Great idea! Together: Keep calm and compost on, (faux whispering with hand to side of mouth) Don’t forget to reach out and recycle, too!
