3 Ophthalmology PGY1 Preliminary – ERAS – Letter writers send LoRs (on letterhead and signed) directly to IvaDean – Provide ERAS LoR writer form to each faculty PGY2 Advanced – San Francisco Match – Student collects LoRs from faculty in sealed envelope w/faculty’s signature across the back – Student submits applic, LoRs, transcript directly to SF Match – IvaDean submits MSPE and updated transcript on 10/1 to SF Match.

4 Ophthalmology Applications: transmission begins in August Interviews: mid-October thru mid-December Step 1: 230 is average score for matched students – If <210, do 2CK and show improvement Research: good but not necessary except select programs 83-85% match rate AOA: ~1/2 matched students Drs. Augsburger, Correa and Golnik will provide honest feedback re your competitiveness SF Match: mid January

5 Urology ERAS for application transmission Interviews: October-December AUA Match: late January Step 1: min ~225 Research: beneficial especially in Urology Prelim: categorical, assign prelim hospital, or you apply to one on own Dr. Donovan will provide honest feedback re competitiveness, caliber of programs to consider, etc.

6 Military Army/Navy – PGY1: ERAS – Advanced PGY2: do not use ERAS Air Force – Allow individual programs to decide if want to use ERAS ERAS: LoRs send to IvaDean who also forwards MSPE, transcript and photo Non-ERAS: faculty send LoRs directly to address provided by commander’s office (if must be mailed thru postal svc, provide mailing labels) & provide IvaDean with address for forwarding your MSPE and transcript. Military Match: December

7 ERAS Electronic Residency Application Service Transmits application, LoRs, MSPE, COM transcript, USMLE transcript Applicants receive an electronic token from their designated dean's office and use it to register with MyERAS. Applicants complete their MyERAS application, select programs, assign supporting documents, and transmit their application to programs.

8 ERAS Schools receive notification of the completed application, and start transmitting supporting documents: transcripts, LoRs, photographs, MSPE. Examining boards receive and process requests for score reports. Programs contact the ERAS Post Office on a regular basis to download application materials.

9 NRMP National Residency Match Program Provides venue for matching applicants’ preferences for residency positions with program directors’ preferences for applicants Categorical, Preliminary and Advanced program positions

10 Application Timeline June - July  Token emailed to student (can only be used ONCE) IMMEDIATELY set up your user information  Schedule Step 2CK and CS ASAP…TAKE BY DECEMBER 31 2CK: 3-4 weeks to receive score 2CS 2012-13 Reporting Schedule: Testing PdReporting Dates 6/17-8/2510/3-10/31 8/26-11/312/5-1/2 11/4-12/311/30-2/20

11 Application Timeline July 1 – September 15 Applicants may begin working on applications, PS, request LoRs, select programs LoR form to each letter writer LoR on LETTERHEAD W/SIGNATURE Letter writer sends to IvaDean (email PDF) Send thank you notes to letter writers IvaDean attaches your photo to ERAS application

12 Application Timeline September 15 ERAS begins transmitting applications to designated ACGME accredited residency programs (applicant must assign each document to each residency program) LoRs, programs, specialties can continually be added Can not change application or PS once submitted to ERAS Can have > 1PS Tracking system (ADTS) allows you to see what UCCOM and residency programs have downloaded

13 Match Timeline October 1 MSPEs are released to residency programs November – January - Interview Season - Look for Application Registration Deadline on nrmp.org December Military Match January Urology and Ophthalmology Matches NRMP ranking opens – see nrmp.org for date

14 Match Timeline February ROLs certification must be complete by date ranking closes March 18-22??? NRMP SOAP and Match Week May 31 ERAS closes

15 Personal Statement (Attach 1) Purpose: provides opportunity for program to become acquainted with you as an INDIVIDUAL Values Insight Experiences Commitment & compatibility to specialty Future trajectory Problems: Briefly address problems encountered in medical school that will be evident from transcript or MSPE

17 The UC HOST Program UC Alumni will host students interviewing in LA, New York, Philly, Boston, Seattle, Houston, Denver. Online registration will be sent to you.

18 Interviewing Arrive early. Be prepared with appropriate questions. Be REALLY nice to the support staff. Be cheerful but not artificial. Do not be overly familiar or informal. Stand up when someone comes into the room to get you. If you are a nervous wreck, do a mock interview here. If there is a dinner: –Decline Etoh unless everyone else is having a drink – max of 1! –Do not order spaghetti!
