It is very difficult to come up with a concrete definition for what abstract photography is because it can mean different things to different people We’ll go with: Does not represent the subject in a realistic way Communicates through form, colour and curves rather than detail You want to make an emotional connection with the viewer that plays were their perception

Form choose subjects with interesting shapes Colour use striking colour; could be saturated, intense or have high contrast Curves bring eye to a certain point, or flow through the image Rules use ROT or none at all! Subtraction take away any “details” that aren’t part of the experience

Focus selective focus to zero in on specific elements; blur to eliminate unwanted details or create a “soft” look Light & Shadows use to emphasize forms Lines should be purposeful, but a central focus of the image Texture should be dominant; can work together with lines Partial Objects show only pieces of your subject
