3 IUPUI U NIVERSITY L IBRARY Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis New Beginnings: Indiana Digital Library Summit Convened by Barbara Maxwell, Indiana State Librarian Goal: “To bring together representatives from all types of Indiana libraries, as well as archives, historical societies, and allied cultural organizations. The purpose was to begin discussing how those groups can work together on the common issue of digitizing unique Indiana resources.”

4 IUPUI U NIVERSITY L IBRARY Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Indiana Digital Library Summit First meeting December 4, 2003 –Andrea Hough and Kris Brancolini presented draft White Paper: The State of Digital Libraries in Indiana and A Vision for the Future Representatives from 14 groups. Revised document and established a smaller working group to tackle next steps.

5 IUPUI U NIVERSITY L IBRARY Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis IDL Mission Statement The Indiana Digital Library, a collaboration of Indiana libraries, museums, archives, and related cultural organizations, enables access to Indiana's unique cultural and historical heritage through a variety of digital formats and free distribution over the Internet. The IDL seeks to support and enhance education and scholarship for all Hoosiers for increased understanding of Indiana's past and its role in preparing for Indiana's future. Adopted 5/19/2004

6 IUPUI U NIVERSITY L IBRARY Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Chronology Statewide license negotiated by Indiana State Library for CONTENTdm in 2005/2006 (includes Multi-Site Server) 6 months of preparation with ISL staff prior to sabbatical beginning Aug. 2006 Formation of ISL implementation team & guidance of Laurie Gemmill, OCLC implementation services manager Sept. 2006 Selection of beta testers, CONTENTdm & metadata training, convening of Copyright Committee & Advisory Board Oct. 2006 Policies, guidelines and test collections created Nov. 2006-Mar. 2007 Hosting contract for Indiana Memory finalized in April 2007
