TAKE NOTES - YOU WILL NEED THEM FOR THE NEXT STEP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzE7VZMT1z8

LIFE CYCLE OF STARS

WHOT QUESTION Today’s WHOT: Predict the fate of a low-mass star- like our Sun.

WE ARE ALL STARS Week 2

NO WHOT THIS WEEK.  Life cycle of a star mini poster Scoring Rubric:  4 or more colors (3 pts)  Artistic/Organized (2 pts)  2 or more details at each stage (7 pts)  Includes the following stages (7 pts)  Nebula  Protostar  Main sequence  “Giant”  Planetary nebula OR Supernova  White dwarf OR neutron star  Black dwarf OR Black hole  Paragraph explaining opposite stage. (10pts) Reading on Pg 232

HOW DO WE KNOW – DEMO DAY Tuesday 2/9

HYDROGEN AND HELIUM SPECTRUM IF YOU SAW THESE SPECTRUM COMING FROM A STAR, WHAT PART OF ITS LIFECYCLE IS IT IN?

WHAT WOULD IT MEAN IF YOU SAW THIS COMING FROM A STAR? Could you use this to tell what elements are being made? Could you use this to tell what part of the lifecycle it is in?

WRITE A PARAGRAPH EXPLAINING WHAT A SUPERNOVA IS. UNDERLINE EACH KEY WORD  Star  Fusion  Hydrogen  Helium  Gravity  Iron  Supernova

WHICH METAL DO YOU THINK HAS A HIGHER TEMP? ABAB

DUE TOMORROW.

HIGHLANDER SHEET 1/7/15 Objective/ SWBAT: Model the lifecycle of a low and high mass star. Responsibilities: Test retakes, completed poster test corrections- DUE THURSDAY! No Exceptions!

REWIND… HIGH MASS STAR  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM9CQDlQ I0A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM9CQDlQ I0A

 You will work with your table partner  Each pair we be assigned a low mass star OR a high mass star.  Using pp 232-237 of the text you will create a diagram to highlight the life cycle of your star.  Each stage must include at least 2 details about the star in that stage.  You may use the class computers for images  The poster must use at least 4 colors.

 Scoring Rubric:  4 or more colors (2 pts)  Artistic/Organized (2 pts)  2 or more details at each stage (4 pts)  Includes the following stages (7 pts)  Nebula  Protostar  Main sequence  “Giant”  Planetary nebula OR Supernova  White dwarf OR neutron star  Black dwarf OR Black hole

 With a partner…  Create a mini-poster, due at the end of the period.  One team makes a low mass star, the other a high mass star.  Must use at least 4 colors.  May use a computer to help with visuals.  Also (ec) use the book pg 232-237  When you finish. Have your team explain their poster, then switch. Repeat, except You will explain the other poster, and they will explain yours.  Repeat until your eyes fall out.

WHOT Q  Predict the fate of a high mass star

HIGHLANDER SHEET 1/8/15 Objective/ SWBAT: Determine the central idea of an article using evidence. Responsibilities: Finish Reading assignment. Grade posters.

 Read Pages 238-39  Write a 1 pg CER.

1. Claim - What is the article about? Identify the central idea. 2. Evidence - Why do you think its about that? Support the central idea with evidence. 3. Reasoning - What do you think it means? Be sure that your analysis tightly connects evidence to central idea.

 Grading Posters…  Use the rubric to grade your team’s opposite poster (if you made a high mass poster, you will grade a low mass poster)  After your group’s posters are graded, switch with another group.  Each poster needs to have 2 grades on them.

WHOT QUESTION Today’s WHOT: Describe how a star begins.

WE ARE ALL STARS

HIGHLANDER SHEET 1/8/15 Objective/ SWBAT: How do scientists know how far away stars are? How long until our Sun goes out? Responsibilities: Test retakes, any student who did not achieve the grade they want may due test corrections- DUE THURSDAY! No Exceptions!
