3 Identification Process K-2 Kaleidoscope Program Kingore Observation Inventory Observation by classroom teachers first quarter Look for advanced behaviors in… advanced language analytical thinking meaning motivation perspective sense of humor sensitivity accelerated learning

4 K-2 Kaleidoscope Program cont. Reassessed each year Students in Kaleidoscope Program will be give CogAt test in spring of 2 nd grade to qualify for 3-5 Compass Program

5 Identification Process 3-5 Compass 2 nd grade pool from Kaleidoscope Program 3-5 grade pool terra nova score at/above 95% Inview score at/above 95% SIGS Home or School rating form above 110 documentation of inclusion from another district Must have 3 data points for testing Students scoring 127 and above qualify for Compass Program Grade 2, 3, 4, 5 take CogAt in spring

6 District Level Programming Mathematics K-2 patterns, numeation, logic, data 3-5 match up with each unit plus logic Language Arts Additional books match up with each theme Visual Spatial Music  These services are provided at each building in Millard and are the same at each building

7 District Level Programming District Written Language Arts Curriculum (k-5) Minimum 1 book a quarter District Written Math Units (k-5) Students must “compact” math unit to participate District Written Visual Spatial Curriculum District provided activities in classroom These lessons replace some grade level work and are taught by the classroom teacher.

8 District HAL Music Choir 4th, 5th grade Orff Orchestra (music and movement) 5th grade Students are selected by each building and all Millard schools meet together to practice. Generally 50-75 students are in the district choir, 25-30 in the Orff orchestra.

11 Differentiation All Millard teachers are trained in providing different levels of instruction to students based on their needs. Compacting opportunities are available at each grade level. Students demonstrate mastery of grade level material and mastered work is replaced with enrichment work. Enrichment work may be taught by the classroom teacher, media or technology specialist, or HAL facilitator.

12 Building Level Programming Willowdale offers several enrichment classes through out the school year. Students are invited to participate by teacher nomination. Enrichment classes are open to all high achieving students and are not limited to students officially qualifying for the HAL program. Enrichment classes replace classroom work. Students participating in enrichment classes have demonstrated mastery of work being taught in the room.
