Why is the BID here? In 2006 the first BID was voted for by businesses In March 2011 city centre businesses were balloted on whether they wanted to see the BID renewed Ballot was successful with 63% of businesses, by vote, voting in favour - representing 59% of the ratable value by vote Investing nearly £1.8m in the city centre up until 2016 Three main projects….

Dressing the City Total Budget£30,000 Total Cost for 2014/15£25,565 Leveraging in additional sponsorship package of £21,500 Over 1800m of bunting and 90 cross-street banners installed Over 70 local schools engaged in ‘Welcome to Brighton’ promotion 200 hanging baskets and window boxes installed in BID street

On Street Security Total Budget£144,800 Total Cost for 2014/15£126,971 4791 sightings of known offenders Leading to 194 arrests £119,000 worth of stolen goods returned to BID businesses Free access to Business Crime Reduction Partnership website and mobile app Dedicated phone lines to contact security in a crisis

Website and Branding The BID is now known as 'Brilliant Brighton' Over 6700 Twitter followers 1000 people signed up to weekly e-mail newsletters Over 4000 unique visitors a month

Newsletters and e-alerts The BID provides a weekly e-mail newsletter, informing BID businesses of offers, events and consultations that may affect you The BID also provides a quarterly newsletter which is hand delivered to your business

Reducing Costs This year, we’ve been committed to searching out deals to support your bottom line In the last 12 months, we’ve negotiated significant savings for BID members

Additional Cleansing The BID has teamed up with City Clean (the City Council's Street Cleaning arm) to provide additional street cleansing in the BID area Chewing gum removal and extra litter sweeps now commonplace in the BID area

Face to Face Charity Fundraisers or ‘Chuggers’ The BID is now three years in to a deal with the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association to deal with Chuggers in the BID area Chuggers are not allowed in the North Laine area Reduced numbers are allowed in designated areas Direct line to the PFRA for complaints Chuggers now accountable for their actions in the city

Data Collection The BID is now the only organisation in the city that collects data on how Brighton city centre is performing Bi-annual shop front vacancy rate survey Bi-annual city centre health check
