Podcasting Podcasting –Combination of the words iPod + Broadcasting –But you don’t need an iPod or iTunes! “audioblogging” MP3-files –Listen online and/or offline (on MP3-player) RSS-feed –List of episodes

What is RSS? Really Simple Syndication XML format Contains info about: –Episodes (title / description / date / time) –Location of “enclosure” Aggregators / Podcatchers Enables automated download

Videoblog Everyone can have his/her own TV station A lot of alternative names: –Videoblogging, Vlogging, Vodcasting, Video podcasting Advantage: use of visual information Disadvantages: requires more focus

Possible Educational Uses Staff / teachers: –Record lectures, meetings, events –Provide additional instruction, feedback Students: –Field-assignments: interviews, topic reports –Record own work, reflect on own performance

Revolution? NO, but –Everyone can be both consumer and publisher Compare that to radio / television –Adds audio and video to “text based” web Broader mix of options –Adds my time / my place options for audio/video I’m in control
