BACKGROUND This year marks the 70th Anniversary for the InterContinental® brand, a cause for celebrating not only the brand’s rich heritage but also the colleagues and the teams who make great things happen at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. This one-off Celebrate Service Week toolkit, has been created as part of a series of activities around the 70th Anniversary celebrations. INTRODUCTION WHAT IS THIS TOOLKIT FOR To celebrate seven decades of the InterContinental® brand, we have created a special toolkit for you and your teams to use during Celebrate Service Week in 2016. This toolkit contains guidance on an interactive, hotel team activity called InterContinental Stars, which invites all members of your hotel team to get involved in. The aim of this activity is within the spirit of Celebrate Service Week, to allow you and your teams to recognise, acknowledge and thank each other for all of the hard work that you do to delight our guests time after time. Please note: This toolkit should not distract from any Celebrate Service Week activity that you have already planned. This toolkit is to be used alongside, and in addition to, all of your usual Celebrate Service Week activity. Confidential © IHG 2016

EXECUTION WHAT TO EXPECT By the end of the month, the InterContinental® Stars toolkit and collateral should have arrived at your hotel. In this box / roll you will find the InterContinental Stars activity, which includes: Confidential © IHG 2016 *Images are for illustrative purposes only, not to scale. Final design is subject to change 300 – 600 gold star stickers (each is 12cm in diameter) One large poster backing paper to stick the stars onto (measures 3m x 2m) Delivered in a black postage tube, addressed to the GM The words ‘thank you’ in multiple languages as a watermark across the background of the poster.

EXECUTION THE HOTEL TEAM ACTIVITY – INTERCONTINENTAL® STARS The aim of this activity is to recognise each of your team members for the ‘Stars’ that each of them are, and for the role they play in creating special moments for our guests. How it works Each hotel colleague or team (based on the number of employees to sticker count) should receive their own physical star sticker (from the pack that has been delivered to your hotel). This can be an individual exercise or an interactive team activity. They can customise these stars whichever way they wish. On the front of the sticker, they can simply write a short note - a hotel memory or a great guest story, that they would like to share. Colleagues should be encouraged to write something which is within the spirit of Celebrate Service Week. They should then be invited to stick their star on the central display, making it as interactive an activity as possible. EXECUTION THINGS TO NOTE Space: Choose a space in your Heart of House to display the activity. This should ideally be somewhere prominent and an area which lots of colleagues walk past. The dimensions of the space required is 3 metres wide and 2 metres tall. Choose a time: Ideally this activity should be conducted during Celebrate Service Week. Invite your team to take part: Each colleague is welcome to take one star sticker. You can either do this at one time, as a team-building activity during Celebrate Service Week, or you can invite colleagues to write and place their star whenever they are able to, over the course of the entire week. Doing the latter will cause minimal distraction to hotel operations – it will also mean colleagues are able to appreciate seeing the wall of stars grow as the week goes on. In the event that there is not enough stars to accommodate every colleague, we would suggest that you incorporate the activity into a team-building exercise (i.e. one/two star(s) per team). Share Back: We would love to see photos and videos of you and your ‘Stars’ getting involved in the activity, as well as the finished product. You can submit your photos using the following email address; globalcomms@ihg.com globalcomms@ihg.com Take it down: It is at your discretion how long you showcase this activity in your Heart of House. We would suggest that you keep the display up for a minimum of one month. However, if space is not an issue, you would be welcome to keep the display up for the whole year of 70th Anniversary celebrations. Confidential © IHG 2016

FAQS Who is this toolkit for? This toolkit is a guide for InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts General Managers and the relevant HODs. The activity as a whole is for all hotel colleagues to get involved in. Does this activity affect or impact guests? No, this activity is purely for General Managers and hotel teams. This should not have an impact on guests. Why are you sending me this toolkit? The InterContinental brand’s 70th Anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the individuals who bring the brand to life today in our hotels. This activity was developed in order to give you some additional tools to celebrate the individuals and teams at your hotel and to thank them for their hard work. Do I have to use this activity? No, this activity is purely optional. It was created to provide an opportunity for hotels to recognise and thank their teams for their contribution towards bringing the brand to life every day. FAQS Am I able to use the toolkit at other times of the year? This toolkit was designed to be used during Celebrate Service Week – as an additional piece of collateral to use to acknowledge and thank each individual and the teams who make the InterContinental® brand what it is today. However, you are welcome to choose a different time to activate if it suits you and your hotel team better. I haven’t received the physical toolkit yet, who should I speak to? The physical activity pack and collateral should have arrived at your hotel by 26 th May.
