1 WATERBAPTISM An Examination of the Scriptures By Rev. D. L. McQuinn

2 Col 2:8-12 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. Summary Which do we love more, Tradition or Truth? This is not salvation by works but rather obedience to the Gospel. Jesus gave his life on the cross for you and me, he died, he was buried, and he rose again, all that we might have life and more abundantly; if we would but obey his gospel plan of salvation, letting go of our sin, our pride, and our tradition. I John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Mark 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

3 1) Those that were baptized had to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and had to repent of their sins. This therefore excludes infants from baptism as they can neither believe nor repent. 2) Baptism by the very definition of the word is to be administered by full immersion in water. This therefore excludes the doctrine of sprinkling. 3) All Biblical Baptisms were done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, therefore this refutes the practice of administering baptism in the titles, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. 4) Biblical Baptisms were done for the remission of sins, salvation and entrance into the kingdom of Heaven. This again refutes the notion that baptism is just a “sign” of an inward work. Conclusion From the Scriptures we have read and studied certain conclusions can be drawn: Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
