DNA vs RNA DNA Double Stranded Exists in eukaryotes Composed of Phosphate Sugar Base- Adenine, Guanine, Thymine, Cytosine Bases are in groups: Purines Pyrimidines RNA Single Stranded Exists in BOTH eukaryotes and prokaryotes Composed of Phosphate Sugar Base-Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, URACIL

Central Idea of DNA Replication DNA replicates during Sphase Helicase splits DNA Polymerase places new base pairs from 3 to 5 on original and 5-3 on new strand Leading strand goes along with the helicase Lagging strand DNA polymerase goes in the opposite direction…Okazaki fragments

DNA to Protein DNA is a genetic code for proteins (the stuff that makes up you). TransC occurs in the nucleus mRNA TransL occurs outside the nucleus mRNa translated and amino acids join to make up protein

Protein Synthesis
18
DNA RNA Protein Inside nucleus Transcription DNA unwinds RNA Polymerase is an enzyme which initiates the building of mRNA. mRNA binds to the DNA complement with AGC U instead of T mRNA snakes out of the nucleus mRNA carries the message to the ribosome
19
Outside nucleus Translation mRNA is ‘read’ by the tRNA which brings in amino acids according to the mRNA sequence. Amino acids are connected by peptide bonds making a protein.
