2 Property Insurance Coverage Property Insurance-insurance that protects you from financial loss you would incur your property was lost or destroyed due to fire, theft, vandalism, flood, or other hazard.  Home and property insurance protects you against three kinds of economic losses: Damage to your home or property Expenses you must pay to live somewhere else if your home is damaged and must be repaired or rebuilt. Liability losses related to your property.

3 Damage to Home or Property  You should insure your home and other expensive property for damage from fire, vandalism, unavoidable accidents, and natural disasters such as lighting, wind, and hail.  If your property is destroyed or damaged and you are insured the insurance company will pay all or a portion of the cost of repair or replacement.

4 Additional Living Expenses  This insurance feature helps to pay for the living costs you would incur if something happened to your home. Example: If a fire or other disaster strikes your home, one of the first shocks you will experience is that you don’t have a place to live.

5 Liability losses  The third kind of loss, liability loss, is protected by personal liability insurance. Personal Liability Coverage- coverage claims from injuries to people or damage to property caused by you, your family, and even your pets.

6 Property Insurance Policies  When purchasing property insurance, you must first decide what you should insure. Perils- are the causes of loss such as fire, wind, or theft. Real property- property permanently attached to land, such as a house or garage. Personal property- property not attached to land, such as furniture or clothing.

7 Homeowners Policies  The most common form of home and property insurance policy sold today is a homeowners policy. Homeowners Policy- provides a very convenient package-type insurance policy designed to insure homes and property.

10 Renters Policies  Renters have many of the same property and liability insurance needs as homeowners. A Renters Policies- is a policy and liability policy suitable for renters.  This policy covers household goods and personal belongings.  A renters policy may include personal liability coverage, but it doesn’t protect the actual dwelling(dwelling should be covered under the owner’s policy).

11 Other Coverage  You can cover policies for damage caused by flood in a flood-prone area.  You can also get insurance to protect against economic losses caused by earthquakes.

12 Making a Claim  You should keep a list, called an inventory, of personal property that you have insured.  This list should include the following information: The brand name and description of each item. The purchase price. The date and place of the purchase.

13 Property Insurance Costs  Make a wise decision and seek for the proper protection at the lowest cost.  Consider the factors that would affect property insurance costs.  You should have great common sense when picking and choosing an insurance plan.

14 Insurance Premiums  Insurance companies consider the following factors when it comes to homeowners insurance premiums. Value of the property insured. Type of policy. Number of the claims on the property. Credit rating of the insured.
