Overview of session today Expansion overview – background – committee ‘recommendations’ / key points (so far) Discussion of the whole Breakout groups: – Application and review – Onboarding – Programming to foster connections – Business model Break Report out by Facilitators Discussion of the whole
7
Framework for planning Business Model – Financial model – Type of organization – Governance structure Membership Model – Application and review – Onboarding – Programming to support network interactions – Member expectations and benefits Marketing Strategy Expansion Process
8
Key points of discussion and working ‘decisions’ Maintain support of and value for current members Logistics of expansion: slow increase vs. large one time influx – working on the assumption that we will expand to ~50 in one step Process for ongoing addition (and loss) of members over time is needed Reasonable level of dues – Current level ($10K) has been workable – Dues at this level not sufficient
9
Key challenges in a 50 member network: Supporting collegial interactions Balancing fidelity to CIRTL core ideas and autonomy of institutions Providing effective avenues for information flow Developing an effective and responsive leadership framework
10
Business model 3 scenarios – University-based (like current) – Affiliated with existing non-profit – Independent non-profit Financial model – Dues only not sufficient (at current dues level) – what dues level is acceptable? – CIRTL Central role and costs
11
Membership: Application and review Application from 2011 solicits key important information Review criteria seem reasonable – Adjust weight ? – Readiness / probability of success – Potential impact
12
Membership: Onboarding ideas Partnering/mentoring of each new institution with a current member of CIRTL CIRTL Boot-Camp before the in-person meeting Onboarding learning community
13
Membership: Fostering connections Create a “matrixed” network that connects individuals from different institutions in similar roles or with similar interests Create regional hubs CIRTL central role Other ideas?
